Fan ejected for pushing Rajon Rondo's hand during Lakers-Suns game

Fan ejected for slapping hand of Rajon Rondo, Lakers vs Suns, 10/22/2021
A courtside fan was ejected from Friday night's game at the Staples Center for slapping the hand of Los Angeles Lakers guard Rajon Rondo during Friday night's NBA game at the Staples Center against Phoenix.

It happened with under two minutes remaining in the third quarter as the Suns held a huge 89-57 lead over the Lakers. Rondo was in the corner of the court during a timeout on the floor as the officials were helping Russell Westbrook line up for an inbounds play on the other sideline. Rondo appeared to be pointing to a fan in the front row when the fan inexplicably pushed Rondo's hand out of his way.

The officials moved Rondo away from the fan as Staples Center security immediately moved in and asked the fan to leave the game.  That was absolutely the right thing to do.

The Lakers tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but fell short as the Suns won the game 115-105. The Suns got their first win of the season, while the Lakers fell to 0-2.

David Bertans fails to draw foul with embarrassing flop

David Bertans flop Game 3 Wizards vs Sixers 5/29/2021
Washington Wizards forward David Bertans failed to draw a foul with an embarrassing flop during Saturday's Game 3 of their NBA first round playoff matchup against Philadelphia.

It happened on a Wizards offensive possession as Bertrans got bumped by Sixers point guard Ben Simmons. Bertrans put his acting skills to the test as he threw himself backwards and slid about 5 feet on the court as he fell to the ground, but the officials did not call Simmons for a foul.
The Wizards lost the game 132-103 and are now down 3-0 in the series. Bertans finished the game with 8 points and one steal in 31 minutes. Bertans needs to be better than that, as it will take more than a few foul calls for the Wizards to avoid being swept, let alone come back to win the series.

Teams with the best chance at the 2020-21 NBA Championship

The NBA season is getting down to the home stretch with teams still battling for playoff positioning. Which teams have a leg up on the competition with the best chance at the NBA Championship and also have the best NBA point spread? Let’s take a look at the top five.

1. Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers very well could have had the best team last season, but came up short of the title. Although Kawhi Leonard recently returned after missing nine out of 10 games with a foot injury, the team was 11-1 over a recent 12-game stretch, with several victories against top contenders in the conference. Paul George averaged 31 points during the games Leonard was out, while Reggie Jackson and Terrance Mann also picked up the slack. The Clippers have one of the best records in the NBA since the All-Star break and are on the tails of the Suns for second in the Western Conference. The return of Leonard could put the Clippers over the top.

2. Brooklyn Nets

Despite having a slew of injuries, the Nets still have one the top records in the Eastern Conference. James Harden could be out the rest of the regular season after a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury. Kevin Durant recently returned and combined with Kyrie Irving to shred the Phoenix Suns' top five defense for more than 130 points. The one issue with the team is their 24th -ranked defense, which could come to haunt them against top teams in the playoffs. The Nets are just a .500 team without Harden and need him back to become the favorites to win it all.

3. Phoenix Suns

Despite recently losing two straight games for the first time all year, the Suns have done well on a road trip against the top teams in Eastern Conference with wins over the Bucks, and 76ers, and Knicks. The Suns are one of only three teams in the NBA that rank in the top 10 both offensively and defensively, but have been less than mediocre over the last few weeks (21st ) against varying levels of offenses. The Suns beat the Jazz and Clippers last week, which could tell a lot about the Suns chances moving forward.

4. Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers lost four straight before thumping the Thunder at home, which started a five game winning streak to pull them to the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Not too much should be taken from those losses considering the 76ers were without Ben Simmons for all, Tobias Harris for three, and Joel Embiid against the Bucks. As of this writing, The 76ers are an excellent 22-8 in games within five points in the last five minutes of the game. The 76ers are 20-4 with their entire lineup together, which makes them a legitimate title threat if they remain healthy. The good news for the 76ers is that they have the easiest schedule left in the NBA, which could help them hold the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

5. Utah Jazz

The Jazz don’t have the big-name players that the other top teams have, but they have the best supporting cast. Utah’s defense, which is 2nd in the NBA, is the key to success, led by center Rudy Gobert. Offensively, Donovan Mitchell needs to return from an injured ankle and lead the fifth-ranked attack. Utah was the first team to clinch a playoff berth and are tied with the Suns for the top seed in the West. It remains to be seen if they have enough star power in the playoffs to go the distance.

Tyler Herro attempts to slip in practice free throw vs Clippers

Miami Heat point guard Tyler Herro tried to pull a fast one during Monday's game against the L.A. Clippers, but the alert officials didn't let him get away with it.

It happened in the final minute of the second quarter with the Clippers holding a 64-62 lead and Herro at the free throw line ready to shoot two foul shots. As the official bounced the ball to Herro at the foul line, he casually threw up a shot that bounced off the front rim. Herro was under the impression that the Clippers were substituting Andre Iguodala into the game, so he figured his shot didn't count. However, the Clippers never made the substitution, and Herro was caught off-guard when the official told him he only had one shot left.

It would be surprising if Herro genuinely believed he could get away with taking a practice free throw. Not sure how Herro got the idea in his head, as this is not allowed in basketball at any level. Herro ended up missing the second free throw as well, so his attempt to skirt the rules backfired. We would guess that it is unlikely that he will try this again.

Herro finished with 27 points and 5 rebounds in 41 minutes, but it wasn't enough as the Clippers beat the Heat 125-118. The Clippers raised their record to 21-8, good for third place in the NBA Western Conference standings. The Heat now stand at a disappointing 11-16, tied for 10th in the NBA Eastern Confererence.

Bradley Beal crawls under bleachers to fetch ball vs. Rockets

Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal went above and beyond with his efforts during Sunday's game against Houston as he fetched a ball that rolled under the bleachers.

It happened in the third quarter with the Wizards holding a 73-69 lead.  Needless to say, it was an unusual sight to see the NBA's leading scorer squeeze his body into a small space underneath the stands so he could direct the ball back towards the court.

Now that's not something you expect to see every day, especially from the player who leads the NBA in scoring.  Not surprisingly, after he got himself out, the Wizards inbounded the ball and Beal scored the basket.

It was that kind of game for Beal, who scored 37 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 36 minutes as the Wizards beat the Rockets 131-119.  The win raised the Wizards record to 8-19 and pulled them out of the bottom slot of the NBA Eastern Conference standings.  Beal raised his scoring average to over 33 points per game.

Kyle Kuzma dunks all over Michael Porter Jr.

Los Angeles Lakers small forward Kyle Kuzma threw down a monster dunk on top of Denver Nuggets small forward Michael Porter Jr. during Sunday night's NBA Western Conference game at the Pepsi Center.

It happened in the third quarter with the Nuggets holding an 80-67 lead.  Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope took a 3-point shot that bounced off the rim.  While Porter was in position for the defensive rebound underneath the basket, Kuzma started moving in towards the basket behind Porter from the opposite end of the 3-point line.  As the ball bounced off the rim, Kuzma was leaping for the rebound before Porter had even left the ground.  The end result was Kuzma grabbing the rebound and throwing it down for the slam in one motion, knocking Porter to the ground on the follow-through.

Now that is a bit embarrassing for Porter, but hopefully a lesson learned.  He has to be more ready for that defensive rebound next time.

Kuzma finished the night with 19 points and 8 rebounds in 26 minutes.  Porter finished with 8 points and 3 rebounds in 30 minutes.

The Nuggets won the game 122-115 to raise their record to 15-11, 7th in the Western Conference.  The Lakers record is now 21-7, good for 2nd in the Western Conference.

Pascal Siakam accidentally kicks Daniel Theis in face, Raptors vs Celtics Game 5
Toronto Raptors power forward Pascal Siakam accidentally kicked Boston Celtics center Daniel Theis in the face during Game 3 of Monday's NBA Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series. It happened in the first period as the Celtics set up on offense holding an early 14-5 lead. Siakam jumped in the air thinking that Celtics point guard Brad Wanamaker was going to shoot, but instead he dished to Theis, who was behind Siakam. Siakam attempted to adjust his position mid-air but lost his balance, and his foot flew up in the air and hit Theis in the side of the face.
The play was stopped as Siakam was called for the foul. Siakam immediately checked on Theis and they shook hands. Theis appeared to be OK after the play.

LeBron James owns Russell Westbrook in Lakers-Rockets Game 1

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James destroyed Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook in Game 1 of Friday night's NBA Western Conference semifinal playoff matchup.

LeBron James stuffs Russell Westbrook, Lakers vs Rockets Game 1 9/4/2020

James put Westbrook on a poster by dunking on him in the first half (and drawing the foul), then swatting him twice in the second half, making for some impressive highlights.

James finished with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and those two monster blocks on Westbrook. However, Westbrook had the last laugh with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists as the Rockets beat the Lakers 112-97 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

According to most experts, the Lakers still have strong odds to win the NBA championship despite losing the opening game of the series. However, another win by the Rockets would certainly change that. This scenario is playing out in the Eastern Conference as the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks have seen their odds nosedive as the Miami Heat has taken a 3-0 lead. This turn of events certainly fits into the 2020 narrative.

Marcus Morris ejected for hard foul on Luka Doncic, Clippers vs Mavericks, 8/30/2020

Los Angeles Clippers small forward Marcus Morris was ejected from Sunday's Game 6 of their NBA Western Conference first round playoff series for a hard foul on Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic.

It happened late in the first quarter with the Clippers holding a 27-25 lead. Doncic took the ball all the way down the court and tried to dribble around Morris for a layup attempt and Morris got too aggressive in trying to stop him. After trying to steal the ball, Morris stepped on Doncic's left foot while whacking him in the head with both hands.

The play nearly triggered a brawl, but officials, coaches and other players stepped in to keep Doncic and Morris separated. After a review of the play, the officials gave Morris a flagrant 2, leading to an automatic ejection. Morris finished with 9 points in 11 minutes.

Lakers fan gets virtual high-five from Lil Wayne

Rapper Lil Wayne made an appearance as a virtual Los Angeles Lakers fan during Wednesday night's NBA Restart game in Orlando as the Lakers faced the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Lil Wayne seemed to get a kick out of watching himself in the "stands" and managed to get the attention of the fan "sitting" next to him on screen to give a virtual "high-five".

Unfortunately, Lil Wayne wasn't enough to inspire a Lakers win as the Thunder came away with the 105-86 victory. However, the Lakers can relax after already having sealed the top seed in the Western Conference heading into the NBA Playoffs.

Zion Williamson dishes incredible assist to Lonzo Ball vs. Jazz

New Orleans Pelicans rookie phenom Zion Williamson continued to impress during Thursday night's game against Utah as the NBA restarted its regular season Tuesday night, highlighted by an incredible assist to teammate Lonzo Ball.

It happened in the third quarter with the Pelicans holding a 63-57 lead after a defensive stop. The Pelicans went on a fast break, with Ball and Williamson taking the lead. Williamson took a pass from teammate Jrue Holiday, then dropped the dime to the wide-open Ball for the easy layup.

Williamson was limited to 15 minutes, scoring 13 points on 6-8 shooting. Unfortunately, Williamson wasn't allowed to play during crunch time at the end of the game, and his efforts weren't enough as the Jazz beat the Pelicans 106-104.

Rudy Gobert stuffs, stares down Tyler Herro

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert stuffed Miami Heat small forward Tyler Herro and stared him down during Saturday's scrimmage in Orlando.

It happened in the third quarter with the Jazz holding a 7-point lead. Herro drove towards the basket and tried to slam it home, but Gobert was in position and wasn't having it.

Unfortunately, Gobert was called for a foul by the officials even though it appeared to be a clean block. Gobert seems to be ready for the restart of the season. The NBA officials, however, not so much.

Gobert finished with 21 points as the Jazz beat the Heat 101-99.

Charles Barkley makes guest appearance on SNL 'What Up With That'

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley was one of the special guests in the "What Up With That: At Home" talk show sketch during this week's episode of Saturday Night Live (At Home).

With the cast and crew of SNL unable to use the studios at Rockefeller Center for a live show, the sketch amounted to a Zoom conference call with Barkley and DJ Khaled as the celebrity guests. However, the gag in this recurring sketch (making its return to SNL for the first time since 2015) is that host DeAndre Cole (played by SNL cast member Kenan Thompson) does most of the talking...and singing.

With the hot topic in sports being the Michael Jordan documentary "The Last Dance", Barkley was asked what it was like to play against Jordan in the 1993 NBA Finals and play with him on the 1992 "Dream Team". Barkley said that it was special, and the documentary is excellent. Barkley wanted to tell a story about something that wasn't in the documentary, but Cole couldn't help interrupt him and break into song again.

Before you know it, the show was over, so Barkley never got to tell his story. We know Barkley has stories about Jordan. They both like to golf, and they both like to gamble. According to Barkley, Jordan once bet $300K on a hole in golf. Must be nice to have that much money.

It's unfortunate that there are no sports to watch right now. The lack of sports is hurting everyone - the players, the owners, the fans, the sportsbooks... everyone. We are hoping that sports come back in some way, shape or form. If the games have to be without fans, at least we can watch them on television. The ratings virtual NFL Draft and the Michael Jordan documentary are proving that fans are desperate for sports to come back. Hopefully it will be soon.

Shaquille O'Neal stars in reality series 'Shaq Life'

Shaquille O

Pro basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal is the star of a new reality series which covers all aspects of his life. The TNT original series premiers as back-to-back episodes tonight and is appropriately titled "Shaq Life".

The series will highlight his family life and his various interests outside of basketball, including his DJ Diesel persona, his business dealings (such as serving as a board member of Papa John's), and his collection hobbies and "toys".  The official trailer includes several quotes from O'Neal himself to give a glimpse of his personality:
  • "I have four championships. I have six kids. I come from a place where I had nothing, and just because I have more than the average guy doesn't mean I'm better than the average guy."
  • "I don't care who it is when it comes to competitions. Kids, babies - I never lose."
  • "At age 13, I believed I could be anything. I'm not gonna stop now."
"Shaq Life" promises to be a lot of fun.

Astros, Knicks ridiculed on SNL Weekend Update

Michael Che with new Houston Astros mascot Cheatie the Camera 2/29/2020

The Houston Astros and New York Knicks were the targets of jokes during the Weekend Update segment of this week's episode of Saturday Night Live.

The new look for the Phillie Phanatic inspired SNL writers with an idea of a new mascot for the Houston Astros.

"The Philadelphia Phillies unveiled a new design for their team mascot, the Phillie Phanatic, while the Houston Astros have revealed their new mascot: Cheatie the Camera."
Seriously, the Houston Astros are cheaters and should have their 2017 World Series championship taken away, but MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred doesn't have the guts to do it.

Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been an embarrassment for two decades and continue to be an endless source of jokes.

"20,000 high school students in New York City got to see the cast of the Broadway hit 'To Kill a Mockingbird' performed at Madison Square Garden. And no surprise, the cast beat the Knicks by 25 points."

Knicks fans hold out hope that one day James Dolan will sell the team, but that's not happening anytime soon.

Russell Westbrook, Tristan Thompson, LeBron James, Eric Bledsoe headline Shaqtin' A Fool 2020 'All-Stars'

LeBron James takes multiple steps but not called for traveling vs Utah

On Sunday, Shaquille O'Neal revealed the top "highlights" (sarcasm intended) from the first half of the 2019-20 NBA season:
  • Russell Westbrook: "Dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble..."
  • Tristan Thompson:  "Tragic Thompson alert".  While in the backcourt, given the option of passing to one of his two guards, he takes it up himself and heaves it from near half-court.  (In fairness, there was only 3 seconds left on the shot clock.  Still...really?)
  • LeBron James:  "You can't spell walking without K-I-N-G."  Hey, it wasn't called, so...
  • Eric Bledsoe:  Dribbling the ball inbounds?  That's a new one.

Luka Doncic as Marty McFly in Back to the Future parody video Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks PR department has created another fantastic hype video with their "Back to the Future" parody featuring some of the iconic movie scenes played by Mavs stars.

Luka Doncic plays the role of Marty McFly, and retired Maverick and future Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki appears very briefly in the role of Doc Brown (blink and you'll miss it!). "Mavs to the Future" also features Dorian Finney-Smith, Delon Wright, Dwight Powell and Seth Curry.

Alfonso Ribiero impersonates Chris Paul in new State Farm commercials

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul gets reduced to a supporting role in the latest round of State Farm commercials that began airing during NBA All-Star Weekend.

The series of ads features actor Alfonso Ribiero as "The New Chris Paul" where he tries to play himself off as the real CP3. With the exception of a small resemblance, his impersonation doesn't work - not even a little.

In this ad, Ribiero tries to film "The New Chris Paul Workout Show" but shatters a window while demonstrating a crossover with a barbell. Hilarity ensues as the real CP3 shows up and he jumps through a pane glass door.

Ribiero steals the show in this ad as he tries to steal CP3's parking space.

The tagline: "There's no replacing the real Chris Paul, just like there's no replacing State Farm."
