Astros, Knicks ridiculed on SNL Weekend Update

Michael Che with new Houston Astros mascot Cheatie the Camera 2/29/2020

The Houston Astros and New York Knicks were the targets of jokes during the Weekend Update segment of this week's episode of Saturday Night Live.

The new look for the Phillie Phanatic inspired SNL writers with an idea of a new mascot for the Houston Astros.

"The Philadelphia Phillies unveiled a new design for their team mascot, the Phillie Phanatic, while the Houston Astros have revealed their new mascot: Cheatie the Camera."
Seriously, the Houston Astros are cheaters and should have their 2017 World Series championship taken away, but MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred doesn't have the guts to do it.

Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been an embarrassment for two decades and continue to be an endless source of jokes.

"20,000 high school students in New York City got to see the cast of the Broadway hit 'To Kill a Mockingbird' performed at Madison Square Garden. And no surprise, the cast beat the Knicks by 25 points."

Knicks fans hold out hope that one day James Dolan will sell the team, but that's not happening anytime soon.

Knicks, Grizzlies scuffle as Elfrid Payton shoves Jae Crowder

New York Knicks-Memphis Grizzlies scuffle 1/29/2020

New York Knicks point guard Elfrid Payton shoved Memphis Grizzlies small forward Jae Crowder, triggering a scuffle between the two teams in the final minute of Wednesday night's game at Madison Square Garden.

After the Grizzlies hit a 3-pointer to increase their lead to 124-106, Knicks guard Julius Randle threw a nonchalant inbounds pass to Payton. As Payton wasn't completely paying attention, Crowder stole the ball and dribbled to the corner. As he took a 3-pointer, Randle shoved him down in front of the front row seats.

Crowder got up and shoved Payton as players ran towards the scuffle while officials and security tried to keep the players separated. Knicks forward Marcus Morris Sr. shoved Grizzlies guard Ja Morant during the scuffle, but fortunately it was kept under control. No players from either team left the bench.

Payton was assessed a flagrant 2 foul, resulting in an automatic ejection. Crowder was also tossed along with Morris. Knicks guard Damyean Dotson and Grizzlies center Jonas Valanciunas also received technical fouls.

In the end, Josh Jackson made three technical free throws, and the Grizzlies beat the Knicks 127-106.
