Queen Elizabeth II, 95, has contracted the coronavirus, Buckingham Palace announced Feb. 20. Earlier this month, the monarch had met with her son, Prince Charles, and other guests at her home.
Queen Elizabeth II has tested positive for the coronavirus, Buckingham Palace says.
The news about the 95-year-old U.K. monarch was announced Sunday, Feb. 20. "Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week," the statement said. "She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines."
News of her ailment comes two weeks after the Queen, the world's longest-reigning monarch, marked the 70th anniversary of her accession to the British throne, and months after she was briefly hospitalized for an undisclosed ailment. BBC News reported that it is understood that a number of people have tested positive at Windsor Castle, where the Queen, who is fully vaccinated, has lived and worked since the start of the pandemic, and where she met her son and heir Prince Charles and other guests this month.
The Prince of Wales had visited his mother Feb. 8, a royal source told BBC News. On Feb. 10, Clarence House announced that Charles tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time, and on Feb. 14, it was revealed his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, had also contracted the virus.

Despite her health setback, the Royal Family still put out a statement on the Queen's behalf on social media to congratulate Great Britain's curling teams on their recent successes at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
"I send my warming congratulations to the Team GB Women's Curling team on your outstanding performance in winning the Gold Medal at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, following the Silver Medal achieved by the Men's Curling team yesterday," the message read. "I know that your local communities and people throughout the United Kingdom will join me in sending our good wishes to you, your coaches and the friends and family who have supported you in your great success."
The message was signed "Elizabeth R." The R stands for "regina," which means "queen" in Latin.
While the Queen has largely kept up her royal engagements, both in-person and virtual in recent months, concerns about her health have grown, given her age and especially after her hospitalization last year, which was followed in November by an announcement from Buckingham Palace that the Queen had sprained her back, forcing her to miss the annual Remembrance Sunday ceremony. On Feb 16, during her last in-person audience session at Windsor, while standing and chatting with two defense staff members, the monarch lightly said she "Well, as you can see, I can't move."
In addition to keeping up with her royal engagements, the Queen has also been taking care of family business to secure their legacy. Earlier this month, she released a statement that read, "When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."

Khloe Kardashian Takes True Thompson and Chicago West Out for a "Girls Day"
Moving past the drama with ex Tristian Thompson, Khloe Kardashian spent time hanging with daughter True Thompson and niece Chicago West.
Girls just want to have fun.
Khloe Kardashian took to her Instagram Stories, Saturday, Feb. 19, to share a series of selfies from an afternoon outing with her 3-year-old daughter True Thompson and 4-year-old niece Chicago West.
In one sweet snap, the 37-year-old reality star puckers up with a kiss face as True, whom she shares with ex Tristan Thompson, smiles alongside her while buckled up in a car seat.
In another pic, Khloe makes a similar face while appearing with Chicago, the youngest daughter of Kim Kardashian and e Kanye "Ye" West's four children. Khloe captioned the photo, "Girls day."
In each adorable snap, Khloe rocks a black sleeveless top, oversized dark shades and large hoop earrings.
The girls' outing comes just one day after Tristan shared photos of himself and True enjoying a daddy-daughter date. Tristian posted a sweet video to Instagram that showed him planting a sweet kiss on his little girls' forehead during a meal out. The 30-year-old basketball player called the outing, "My favorite type of date nights."
Tristan also shares 5-year-old son Prince Thompson with ex Jordan Craig. In January, he confirmed that he fathered a now two-month old baby boy with Maralee Nichols after previously disputing the child's paternity.
Tristan, who who last played for the Indiana Pacers, has acknowledged that he and Maralee had sex in March 2021 when he was in Houston, Texas. At the time, he appeared to still be in a relationship with Khloe, their breakup coming to light that spring.
In a statement posted to Instagram, the athlete apologized to the Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum, noting she doesn't "deserve the heartache and humiliation" he's caused. And while Tristan said he takes "full responsibility" for his actions and looks "forward to amicably raising" his newborn son, Maralee's rep recently claimed in a statement to E! News that Tristan "has done nothing to support their son."
The Good American founder hasn't directly commented on Tristian's third child, but, in true Khloe form, she has taken to social media to cryptically post about looking back while moving forward.
"In life we do things. Some we wish we had never done," she wrote on her instagram Stories earlier this month. "Some we wish we could replay a million times in our heads. But the all make us who we are, and in the end they shape every detail about it. If we were to reverse any of them we wouldn't be the person we are."
She added, "So just live, make mistakes, have wonderful memories. But never second guess who you are, where you've been and most importantly where you're going."
Loren and Alexei Feel "Helpless" as Baby Faces Complications in After the 90 Days Sneak Peek
In an E! News exclusive Loren & Alexei: After The 90 Days sneak peek, we get a glimpse into the days following the birth of baby Boten. Watch the emotional clip here.
The first few days following the birth of baby Boten were incredibly scary.
Loren and Alexei Brovarnik welcomed their second child Boten into the world back in August. And now, in a Loren & Alexei: After The 90 Days exclusive sneak peek, we get a first look at the struggles the couple faced after delivering the little one.
In the clip, Dr. Santos visits Loren and Alex in the recovery room and tells them that Boten must be intubated overnight. And while this was nerve wracking for them, the doctor assures the couple that once the medicine begins to work, their baby will be able to breathe on his own.
"When Dr. Santos says that he can't breathe on his own and that he's intubated, it's scary," Loren says in the clip. "You're like, 'Oh my gosh, is he going to make it?'"
"I questioned," she continues, "'Is it my fault that he can't breathe on his own? Is it my fault he came early? Could I have prevented it? Could I have done something different? Like, what did I do wrong?'"
And while they both have to wait to see their baby, Loren has to wait longer since she has a cold.
"Because of my positive RSV result," Loren explains, "we weren't even allowed to leave my room and the NICU was right next to our room. So it was so hard knowing that our baby was right there, and I couldn't even see him."
As for Alex, he says, "I was able to see our baby the next morning."
When Alex finally reunites with Boten, he becomes emotional seeing him attached to tubes and wires. "Really upsetting to see him like this and I'm glad Loren can't even come and see actually, cause I don't know how she would react," he says.
Nonetheless, he sends a photo to Loren to reassure her that Boten is being looked after, but she immediately breaks down.
"I just want to make sure he's okay," she says. "Because I can't be there for him, and it's the worst, most helpless feeling."
