Fan takes mayo bath on ESPN College GameDay

Fan takes mayo bath on ESPN College GameDay 9/4/2021
ESPN College GameDay featured a shirtless fan giving himself a mayo bath during Saturday's live broadcast from Charlotte. The ESPN crew was in town for Saturday night's Top-5 matchup between Georgia and Clemson, scheduled for 7:30PM at Bank of America Stadium. The broadcast took place in Romare Bearden Park near the stadium and was filled with fans who were pumped up for the game. One particular fan was so pumped up that he poured a whole bottle of Duke's mayonnaise all over himself. Now that is absolutely nasty, but huge publicity for Duke's. Will this become a weekly trend? We shall see.

Army throws 'pick-6' on kickoff return vs. Tulane

Now here's something you don't see every day: Army threw a "pick-6" on a kickoff return during Saturday's game against Tulane.

It happened in the fourth quarter with Tulane already holding a 31-12 lead. Army freshman running back Tyrell Robinson caught the kickoff on the 1-yard line, ran to about the 10-yard line and then threw a backwards pass across the field intended for a teammate. Unfortunately, the trick play attempt backfired spectacularly, as Tulane senior wide receiver Jaetavian Toles came down the field on kickoff coverage, read the play and caught the throw from Robinson on the 8-yard line. With no one between Toles and the end zone, it was an easy score for the Green Wave. In the box score, the busted trick play is scored as a fumble for Robinson and a fumble recovery for Toles (his second of the game). Unofficially, however, it might has well have been a "pick-6".

It was that kind of day for Army as Tulane defeated them 38-12

Nebraska QB Luke McCaffrey switches hands, completes pass for first down

Nebraska Cornhuskers freshman quarterback Luke McCaffrey pulled off an impressive play by switching hands to throw a completion for a first down during Saturday's Big Ten football game against Penn State.

It happened in the final minute of the second quarter with Nebraska holding a 24-6 lead. On 3rd and 9 from teh Penn State 27-yard line, McCaffrey, a right-handed QB took the shotgun snap. As Penn State rushers closed in on him, McCaffrey took a few steps to his left, switched the ball to his left hand and tossed it to running back Marvin Scott in the flat. Scott caught the ball and ran along the sideline for a first down. You don't see that every day. Consider us impressed.

McCaffrey led the Cornhuskers to a field goal on that drive to give Nebraska a 27-6 lead at halftime. They would hold on to beat Penn State for a 30-23 victory, McCaffrey's first as a starting quarterback. McCaffrey finished 13-for-21 for 152 yards and one passing touchdown while also leading the team in rushing with 67 yards and scoring a rushing touchdown. Not bad for a day's work.

Army OL Mike Johnson headbutts coach with helmet on

Army Black Knights offensive lineman Mike Johnson was a little too pumped up during Saturday's game against Cincinnati, and one of his assistant coaches paid the price.

It happened during a timeout Army's opening offensive drive of the second half. With Cincinnati holding a 10-7 lead, Army had just converted a 3rd-and-9 for a first down at the Cincinnati 42-yard line. As the Army players came towards the sideline for the timeout, Johnson found fullback coach Mike Viti and gave him a huge headbutt. Johnson was wearing a helmet. Viti was not.

Watch the video closely here, courtesy of ESPN. It happens on the right side of the video at the 1-second mark.

Viti was clearly a bit woozy in the seconds after the headbutt. He seemed to be shake the cobwebs off after about a minute, but appeared to have a small cut on his cheek from the impact of the helmet.

In addition to Viti being knocked silly, the headbutt by Johnson seemed to bring Army some negative karma. On the very next play after the timeout, Army turned the ball over on a fumble by Christian Anderson. Cincinnati took the ball and scored on their offensive drive, making the score 17-7. The 22nd-ranked Black Knights would never recover as 14th-ranked Cincinnati won the game 24-10.

Hopefully next time, Johnson can keep the physical contact to opposing players on the field.

Memphis football launches 'masked kiss cam' at home opener

Memphis football masked kiss cam 9/5/2020

The Memphis Tigers football public relations team put a 2020 twist on the classic kiss cam during Saturday's home opener against Arkansas State.

Because the limited number of fans in attendance were required to wear masks, the entertainment during one of the third quarter breaks was renamed the "masked kiss cam". The Memphis fans captured by the camera seemed to enjoy it as they hugged and kissed with their masks on.

The home fans went home happy as Memphis beat Arkansas State 37-24.

Tua Tagovailoa Pro Day footage leaks online

Tua Tagavailoa Pro Day leaked online footage

NFL quarterback prospect Tua Tagovailoa worked out for team scouts this week as Alabama held its Pro Day. Today, ESPN NFL analyst Chris Mortensen leaked about 15 minutes of video footage from Tagovailoa's workout online, which was provided to him by one of the NFL teams.

You can evaluate his performance for yourself, but there appears to be no obvious lingering impact from the hip injury he suffered back in November.

Many analysts expect Tagovailoa to be drafted by the Miami Dolphins as the number 5 pick in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft, which is only a couple of weeks away. We shall see.
