Adam Duvall HR ball hits dog cardboard cutout

Atlanta Braves outfielder Adam Duvall hit a cardboard cutout with the image of a dog with a home run during Saturday's game in New York.

Duvall broke open a scoreless game with his 350-foot homer to right field. There happened to be three cardboard cutouts of dogs in the section where Duvall's homer landed, and the baseball hit the cutout of Mets left fielder Jeff McNeil's dog Willow.

Now that is something that has probably never happened before in MLB history. Duvall couldn't do that again in a million more tries.

Duvall went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts, but had the honor of scoring the winning run in the game. With Duvall striking out to end the 9th for the Braves, he became the lead runner at second base to start the 10th inning and came around to score on a single. The Braves ended up beating the Mets 5-3.

Nathan Eovaldi accidentally switches uniform numbers during Red Sox Opening Day

Boston Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi suffered a uniform mishap during Friday's Opening Day game against Baltimore when he put on the wrong uniform for the third inning.

Eovaldi normally wears number 17, but when he came out to the mound for the third inning, he was wearing number 7.

According to the AP, Eovaldi swapped out his number 17 jersey that he wore for the first two innings for a new one because it was too sweaty. However, he didn't realize that he had mistakenly grabbed a number 7 jersey. Number 7 belongs to catcher Christian Vazquez, who also wore number 7 during the third inning, giving the Red Sox two number 7s on the field for the third inning.

After Eovaldi finished up the third without giving up a run, he clued into the fact that something was up when everyone was calling him "Vazque". After realizing that the uniform did feel a little tight around the arms, Eovaldi took off the number 7 and put on his own number 17, which he wore for the rest of his outing. Hopefully the equipment managers can come up with a system to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

Regardless of the number he was wearing, Eovaldi had a solid outing, pitching six innings and only giving up a run, which was more than enough to earn the victory as the Red Sox crushed the Orioles 13-2.

Balloon crashes Dodgers-Giants opener with no fans in attendance

Balloon crashes Dodgers-Giants Opening Day 7/24/2020

A balloon landed on the infield at Dodger Stadium during Thursday night's Opening Day game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and visiting San Francisco Giants. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but given that there were no fans in the stands, it was extremely bizarre.

It happened in the bottom of the eighth inning with no outs and Cody Bellinger at the plate. The balloon floated down from the air and landed on the dirt of the infield. A Dodgers ball boy named Branden came out to take away the balloon.

It looks like the source of the balloon was tracked down, as celebrity stylist Chaz Dean was celebrating his birthday when one of the balloons floated away. Based on his picture of the floating balloon, it matches the one that crashed the Dodgers game.

Dodgers use cardboard cutout fans, including Tommy Lasorda, for Opening Day

The Los Angeles Dodgers held their Opening Day game against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Thursday night in front of 4500 cardboard cutout fans.

Many of the images were Dodgers fans who submitted images of themselves, but a few familiar faces were in the "crowd", including former manager (and Hall of Famer) Tommy Lasorda.

Time will tell whether MLB teams will embrace the cardboard cutout fans or not, as only certain teams will have them in the stands for their home games. However, since the Dodgers started the season on the right foot by beating the Giants 8-1, the cardboard fans will probably be around for a while.

Newcastle midfielder Matt Ritchie calls referee a 'wee dick'

In Premier League soccer action, Newcastle United FC midfielder Matt Ritchie dressed down a referee during Monday's match against Brighton by calling him a "wee dick".

It happened in the 14th minute of the game as Ritchie was called for a foul as he appeared to take down a Brighton player near the sideline. With no fans in the stands, microphones at field level clearly picked up on Ritchie's frustration with the call.

With many pro sports playing in front of empty stadiums for the foreseeable future, there could be a lot more awkward moments like this over the days and weeks to come. Let this be a lesson for Ritchie, and hopefully he can treat the officials a little nicer next time.

Phil Mickelson makes unusual par at Memorial Tournament

Phil Mickelson took an unusual path to make par at the 13th hole during Sunday's final round of the PGA Tour Memorial Tournament.

After three bogeys and a double bogey in the first 12 holes put him at 8-over par for the tournament, Mickelson was more willing to take a chance and get creative. He certainly raised some eyebrows when he attempted to putt on his second shot from 78 yards out.

It came as no surprise to viewers that the putt did not go well, as it only made it halfway to the hole. Mickelson had a hilarious response to the shot as he said "I saw that playing out differently in my mind."

Mickelson rebounded in impressive fashion, however, with a flop shot that brought him 2 feet from the hole, allowing him to save par. No harm, no foul.
