Kyle Clifford destroys Dean Kukan with huge hit

Kyle Clifford destroys Dean Kukan with huge hit, Blue Jackets vs Maple Leafs Game 2, 8/4/2020

Toronto Maple Leafs left winger Kyle Clifford destroyed Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Dean Kukan with a bone-crushing hit during Tuesday's Game 2 of their NHL Eastern Conference Qualifier series.

It happened just two minutes into the first period as the puck was dumped into the Blue Jackets zone. Kukan took control of the puck and avoided a check attempt by Maple Leafs right winger Kasperi Kapanen, but let the puck get a bit too far ahead of him. Kukan chased the puck down and was able to pass it to a teammate as Clifford was lining him up for the big hit. Clifford launched himself into Kukan and absolutely crushed him.

No penalty was called. Kukan was slow to get up and headed to the locker room after ending his shift. He did return briefly later in the game, but finished with only seven and a half minutes of ice time.

It was that kind of game for the Blue Jackets as the Maple Leafs won the game 3-0 to even the series at one game apiece.

Zion Williamson dishes incredible assist to Lonzo Ball vs. Jazz

New Orleans Pelicans rookie phenom Zion Williamson continued to impress during Thursday night's game against Utah as the NBA restarted its regular season Tuesday night, highlighted by an incredible assist to teammate Lonzo Ball.

It happened in the third quarter with the Pelicans holding a 63-57 lead after a defensive stop. The Pelicans went on a fast break, with Ball and Williamson taking the lead. Williamson took a pass from teammate Jrue Holiday, then dropped the dime to the wide-open Ball for the easy layup.

Williamson was limited to 15 minutes, scoring 13 points on 6-8 shooting. Unfortunately, Williamson wasn't allowed to play during crunch time at the end of the game, and his efforts weren't enough as the Jazz beat the Pelicans 106-104.

Penguins get caught with 10 men on the ice vs Flyers

The Pittsburgh Penguins were rusty as they played Tuesday's NHL exhibition game against the rival Philadelphia Flyers, and it showed as they were given a penalty for having too many men on the ice. Normally teams have six men on the ice at one time, but the Penguins were caught with ten men.

It happened midway through the second period as the Penguins made a very sloppy line change. The fresh players were quick to leave the bench, but the players at the end of their shift were slow to get off, resulting in a moment with ten Penguins on the ice at the same time.

There was no way the officials were going to miss that one. They should have sent at least two Penguins to the penalty box for that one. Granted that this was a practice game of sorts, but the Penguins need to step things up a bit if they're planning on making a run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

As it happened, the Flyers beat the Penguins 3-2 in overtime.

Rudy Gobert stuffs, stares down Tyler Herro

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert stuffed Miami Heat small forward Tyler Herro and stared him down during Saturday's scrimmage in Orlando.

It happened in the third quarter with the Jazz holding a 7-point lead. Herro drove towards the basket and tried to slam it home, but Gobert was in position and wasn't having it.

Unfortunately, Gobert was called for a foul by the officials even though it appeared to be a clean block. Gobert seems to be ready for the restart of the season. The NBA officials, however, not so much.

Gobert finished with 21 points as the Jazz beat the Heat 101-99.

Phillie Phanatic roams stands wearing Santa suit

The Phillie Phanatic was roaming the empty stands at Citizens Bank Park dressed as Santa Claus during Saturday's Philadelphia Phillies game against the visiting Miami Marlins.

Despite having no fans to entertain, the Phanatic was very into the game. It's not clear why the Phanatic was wearing the Santa suit.

The Phanatic is sporting a new look this year, including bushy blue eyebrows and a longer blue feather tail, due to a legal dispute between the Phillies and the designer of the mascot.

The Phanatic must have brought the Phillies some luck, as they beat the Marlins 7-1.

Adam Duvall HR ball hits dog cardboard cutout

Atlanta Braves outfielder Adam Duvall hit a cardboard cutout with the image of a dog with a home run during Saturday's game in New York.

Duvall broke open a scoreless game with his 350-foot homer to right field. There happened to be three cardboard cutouts of dogs in the section where Duvall's homer landed, and the baseball hit the cutout of Mets left fielder Jeff McNeil's dog Willow.

Now that is something that has probably never happened before in MLB history. Duvall couldn't do that again in a million more tries.

Duvall went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts, but had the honor of scoring the winning run in the game. With Duvall striking out to end the 9th for the Braves, he became the lead runner at second base to start the 10th inning and came around to score on a single. The Braves ended up beating the Mets 5-3.

Nathan Eovaldi accidentally switches uniform numbers during Red Sox Opening Day

Boston Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi suffered a uniform mishap during Friday's Opening Day game against Baltimore when he put on the wrong uniform for the third inning.

Eovaldi normally wears number 17, but when he came out to the mound for the third inning, he was wearing number 7.

According to the AP, Eovaldi swapped out his number 17 jersey that he wore for the first two innings for a new one because it was too sweaty. However, he didn't realize that he had mistakenly grabbed a number 7 jersey. Number 7 belongs to catcher Christian Vazquez, who also wore number 7 during the third inning, giving the Red Sox two number 7s on the field for the third inning.

After Eovaldi finished up the third without giving up a run, he clued into the fact that something was up when everyone was calling him "Vazque". After realizing that the uniform did feel a little tight around the arms, Eovaldi took off the number 7 and put on his own number 17, which he wore for the rest of his outing. Hopefully the equipment managers can come up with a system to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

Regardless of the number he was wearing, Eovaldi had a solid outing, pitching six innings and only giving up a run, which was more than enough to earn the victory as the Red Sox crushed the Orioles 13-2.
