Dylan Bundy vomits on mound, leaves game vs. Yankees

Los Angeles Angels starter Dylan Bundy left Monday night's game early against the New York Yankees due to heat exhaustion, which was readily apparent after he vomited on the mound. 

It happened in the bottom of the second inning with two outs and a runner on second base and the score tied at 2-2. Bundy had thrown 43 pitches in 90-degree heat and high humidity as he was preparing to face Yankees batter DJ LeMahieu. Bundy's cap was pouring with sweat as he took a few steps behind the rubber, hunched over and lost his lunch.

An Angels trainer quickly came out to tend to Bundy, with manager Joe Maddon following close behind. It was obvious that Bundy could not continue, so the Angels wasted no time in removing him from the game and getting him some treatment. Bundy was replaced by Jose Suarez, who got LeMahieu to ground out to end the inning.

In October 2017, the ICC announced that a Test league had been agreed by its members, which would involve the top nine teams playing series over two years with the top two teams qualifying for a World Test League Championship Final. The first ICC World Test Championship started after the 2019 Cricket World Cup from 1 August 2019, with the Ashes series. The second ICC World Test Championship will run from July 2021 to June 2023.

Fernando Tatis Jr. loses track of count, thinks he walked on 2-2 pitch

San Diego Padres superstar shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. was caught losing track of the count during Friday's game against Arizona. 

It happened during his at-bat in the bottom of the eighth inning. As the 2-2 pitch from D-backs reliever Matt Peacock came in a bit inside, Tatis was ready to toss his bat aside as he began to walk towards first base.

   

Fortunately, he quickly realized that the pitch was not ball four, so he smoothly walked backwards to home plate as if he knew all along that the count was 3-2. 

Tatis ended up grounding out to shortstop in the at-bat. However, Padres fans were more than willing to forgive Tatis Jr. for his counting mishap, considering that he had already hit 3 home runs (and a single) in the game with 4 RBIs. Tatis finished the game 4-for-5 as the Padres beat the Diamondbacks 11-5.

Tour de France Stage 1: Spectator sign triggers colossal crash

Saturday's first stage of the 2021 Tour de France was marred by a colossal crash caused by a careless fan holding a sign too close to the road. 

It happened with less than 30 miles remaining in Stage 1.  A fan stood on the edge of the road with a sign that said "Allezopi-omi!"  From our vantage point, it appears that they were facing in one direction posing for a picture as the lead cyclists rapidly approached from the other direction.  Either they were completely unaware that the riders were approaching, or they were trying to take the photo at the exact moment that the bikers passed by.  

Regardless of the reason for the photo, things turned out badly as it turned out to be a spectacular lapse in judgement.  The fan's sign clipped German cyclist Tony Martin, taking him down and triggering a chain reaction that led to a massive crash involving dozens of riders, bringing the race to a virtual halt.

Fortunately, most of the riders came away relatively unscathed, with only one rider, German cyclist Jasha Sutterlin, having to pull out of the race entirely.  The major damage from the crash was suffered by the bikes, as many riders had to swap out their bikes for new ones due to bent wheels, bent levers, or shattered frames.

There have been plenty of crashes at the Tour de France over the years, but this was an embarrassing mishap that was completely avoidable.  There may not be any way to discipline this fan since it was an accident, but hopefully they will be more careful in the future.  

UPDATE 6/27/21:  Organizers of the 2021 Tour de France plan on suing the fan who caused the crash.  The fan fled the scene and has yet to be found.

Brayden McNabb destroys Nick Suzuki with monster open ice hit

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb obliterated Montreal Canadiens center Nick Suzuki with a tremendous open ice hit during Friday night's Game 3 of the NHL Western Conference Finals at the T-Mobile Arena. 

It happened during the opening moments of the second period with the game still scoreless. Suzuki took a pass and skated towards the red line with the puck as McNabb lined him up and laid him out.

   

It was a clean hit. Suzuki appeared to be OK as he got right back up, found his stick, and continued playing. 

Suzuki's teammate Shea Weber retaliated on his behalf by knocking McNabb down to the ice in front of the referees. Since the hit happened nowhere near the puck, Weber was given a two minute penalty for interference. 

Suzuki and Weber got the last laugh, however, as the Canadiens beat the Golden Knights 3-2 to take a 2-1 series lead.
