Dodgers use cardboard cutout fans, including Tommy Lasorda, for Opening Day

The Los Angeles Dodgers held their Opening Day game against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Thursday night in front of 4500 cardboard cutout fans.

Many of the images were Dodgers fans who submitted images of themselves, but a few familiar faces were in the "crowd", including former manager (and Hall of Famer) Tommy Lasorda.

Time will tell whether MLB teams will embrace the cardboard cutout fans or not, as only certain teams will have them in the stands for their home games. However, since the Dodgers started the season on the right foot by beating the Giants 8-1, the cardboard fans will probably be around for a while.

Newcastle midfielder Matt Ritchie calls referee a 'wee dick'

In Premier League soccer action, Newcastle United FC midfielder Matt Ritchie dressed down a referee during Monday's match against Brighton by calling him a "wee dick".

It happened in the 14th minute of the game as Ritchie was called for a foul as he appeared to take down a Brighton player near the sideline. With no fans in the stands, microphones at field level clearly picked up on Ritchie's frustration with the call.

With many pro sports playing in front of empty stadiums for the foreseeable future, there could be a lot more awkward moments like this over the days and weeks to come. Let this be a lesson for Ritchie, and hopefully he can treat the officials a little nicer next time.

Phil Mickelson makes unusual par at Memorial Tournament

Phil Mickelson took an unusual path to make par at the 13th hole during Sunday's final round of the PGA Tour Memorial Tournament.

After three bogeys and a double bogey in the first 12 holes put him at 8-over par for the tournament, Mickelson was more willing to take a chance and get creative. He certainly raised some eyebrows when he attempted to putt on his second shot from 78 yards out.

It came as no surprise to viewers that the putt did not go well, as it only made it halfway to the hole. Mickelson had a hilarious response to the shot as he said "I saw that playing out differently in my mind."

Mickelson rebounded in impressive fashion, however, with a flop shot that brought him 2 feet from the hole, allowing him to save par. No harm, no foul.

Will Ferrell gives wacky interview during halftime of LAFC vs LA Galaxy

LAFC co-owner Will Ferrell held an interview with ESPN during halftime of Saturday night's MLS is Back Tournament matchup against cross-town rival LA Galaxy in the latest iteration of El Trafico, and things got a bit wacky.

The game was tied at 2-2 at halftime as Ferrell joined the ESPN studio crew from his home sporting an LAFC facemask and some extremely frizzy hair. Ferrell claimed that LAFC scored each time he put on his "Talledaga Nights" racing helmet to bring the team luck. As Ferrell answered some other questions about the quarantine and how he watches soccer games, a large group of kids popped up in the background eating cereal and corn on the cob.

Things got really strange when the ESPN studio crew asked Ferrell if he eats corn on the cob with the helmet on and whether it was white or yellow corn. Ferrell said that it would typically be yellow corn and he would take the helmet off to eat it. When asked who the "minions" behind him who were eating so much corn, after several seconds of dead silence, Ferrell claimed to have no idea what they were talking about.

We're guessing that Ferrell wore the helmet for most of the second half, as LAFC broke the game open with four goals to defeat the LA Galaxy 6-2.

Travis Kelce gives Patrick Mahomes wet willy during live interview at celebrity golf tournament

Travis Kelce gives Patrick Mahomes wet willy at American Century Championship 7/12/2020

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce pranked Super Bowl MVP teammate Patrick Mahomes by videobombing him and giving him a wet willy as he was giving a live interview following his third round of golf at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship Tournament on Sunday.

Kelce had initially walked past Mahomes, but then doubled back once he realized it was his quarterback.  Kelce first stood quietly giving a thumbs up behind him, then went right for his ear once Mahomes was done answering the first question.

Mahomes finished tied for 38th in the ACC tournament, which is not bad considering it was his first time playing there.  He is hoping to play more golf during the offseason, since the Chiefs will no longer allow him to jet ski and play basketball during his leisure time.  That is understandable, as the Chiefs have to protect their investment given the huge multi-million dollar contract extension that Mahomes just signed with the team.  Golf may make it easier for Mahomes to keep busy and enjoy himself without risking injury in the offseason.

16-year-old Russian soccer goalkeeper struck by lightning

Russian soccer player struck by lightning 7/4/2020

A 16-year-old Russian soccer player was struck by a bolt of lightning during a practice session last Saturday.

Znamya Truda goalkeeper Ivan Zakborovsky was making his approach to take a shot from the edge of the penalty area when he was struck without warning.  This incredible (albeit grainy) video captures the moment when it happened.

Zakborovsky was taken to the hospital and placed into a medically induced coma while being treated for severe burns.  Fortunately, however, his condition is stable and he is expected to recover.
